Typhonix Test Center
Labratory Instruments
The Typhonix Test Center is also equipped with several analytical instruments capable of detecting shear and turbulence related effects such as: droplet sizes in water/oil continuous phases, WiO content, OiW content and effective emulsion viscosities. The analytical instruments and flow loop transmitters are calibrated by third parties on regular basis according to our quality system.

Rheometer, physica mcr 101:
Rotational/shear rheometer: measures how liquids, emulsions or slurries flows in response to applied shear; used to determine viscosity and relate shear to droplet sizes. The instrument is also used to determine the viscosity on polymer solutions.
Capabilities:
- Shear stress range: 0 – 16000 s-1
- Temperature range: -50°C – +200°C
- Measuring systems:
- High and low shear bob / stationary cup
- Cone and plate
Microscope, nikon eclipse 50i:
Optical microscope equipped with CCD camera used to study properties of emulsions. Parameters of special interest are droplet size distributions, droplet concentration, droplet geometry and droplet interactions (flocculation and coalescence).
Capabilities:
- Image and video capturing
- Software for calculation of droplet size distributions
Karl fisher, volumetric v20 titrator:
The titrator is used for water determinations according to the Karl Fischer method in crude oils.
Particle sizer, malvern 2000e:
Laser diffraction instrument for determination of particle sizes
(oil droplets) and concentrations in oil in water emulsions.
Capabilities:
- Particle size range 0,1 µm – 1000 µm
Turner Design 500D:
Hand Held Oil in Water Analyzer.
Capabilities:
- Meassuring the amount of oil (ppm) in a water oil sample
- Range: 0 – 10 000 ppm
