TYPHONIX LOW SHEAR PUMPS
By using turbulence more constructively, Typhonix Low Shear Pumps reduce droplet breakup and increase droplet growth while pumping produced water. Since 2017, Typhonix has been supplying low shear centrifugal pumps specially designed for produced water applications.
Typhonix Pumps
Typhonix Pumps are low shear centrifugal pumps developed for produced water applications. The patented Low Shear Trim avoids oil droplet breakup. The trim also promotes droplet-droplet coalescence, which enlarges the oil droplets during pumping. Due to the robust design in accordance with API 610, these pumps have large OPEX benefits compared to other commonly used low shear pump types. Typhonix Pumps are available in BB3, BB4, and BB5 configurations.

References and Quality
Typhonix Pumps are built by well-established pump manufacturers, with years of experience and thousands of references. Typhonix Pumps utilize their standard design (BB3/ BB4 / BB5) and our patented Low Shear Trim to enable both low shear and coalescence. This combines the highest standards, years of operational experience and mechanical integrity, with an innovative production friendly design.
Typhonix Pumps can also be supplied as part of a larger pump package. For this, we have established relationships with partners that can offer our pumps in addition to other pump types that do not require low shear trim. Please contact us for further information and refence lists.

Costumer value and user benefits
- Typhonix Pumps improve the efficiency of produced water treatment equipment.
- Typhonix Pumps have a robust design in accordance with API 610, and therefore have a lower OPEX and MTBF compared to many positive displacement pumps.
- Typhonix Pumps normally do not require any blocked outlet protection (e.g., a PSV), contrary to that of positive displacement pump.
- Typhonix Pumps improve the separation efficiency without resorting to chemicals or additional treatment equipment, reducing reduced oil and chemical discharges.
- Typhonix Pumps contribute to a cost-effective and environmentally friendly separation process.
- Typhonix Pumps contribute to reduced size and footprint of greenfield process plants by increased separation efficiency.

Low shear pump principles
The Low Shear pump is a multistage centrifugal pump with high hydraulic efficiency. The layout and configuration of the individual stages are custom designed to control shear forces and minimize oil droplet breaking.

Low shear pump selection considerations
This article is intended to give a compact overview of some of the main factors involved in the pump selection. References to relevant articles are added for further reading. The topics discussed are; evaluation of the pump types, a discussion on the level of low shear that is acceptable, and evaluation of pump turndown solutions.

Produced water pump case study
A case study based on an actual produced water pump application has been performed to evaluate the operational and economic benefits of low shear and coalescing produced water pump types, compared to that of conventional produced water pumps.
